SYMUN 2017

Muna 2017

21 students from Arturo Soria Shool  have participated in the Model of United Nations organised by Alfrink College for the seventh time in a row.

They arrived full of enthusiasm, and have returned loaded with confidence and determination, fully aware of the power of their voice. No doubt will this experience contribute to making them individuals that are not afraid of speaking up, that will be the voice of those who do not have a voice.

We are very proud of them for they have got on very well in an academic English, in a multicultural environment, being excellent ambassadors of our school.

The Storyteller

The library of Colegio Arturo Soria, in collaboration with the Foreign Language Department, would like to annunce the 2nd edition of the NATIONAL YOUTH STORYTELLING COMPETITION

which promotes writing skills and the creation of literature in its narrative form.

Participation rules

We strongly encourage you to get round to WRITING. We know there’s a lot of talent out there!

Norman Percevel Rockwell (February 3, 1894 – November 8, 1978) was a 20th-century American painter and illustrator.   His works
enjoy a broad popular appeal in the United States for their reflection of American culture. Rockwell is most famous for the cover illustrations of everyday life he created for The Saturday Evening Post
magazine over nearly five decades. Among the best-known of Rockwell’s works are the Willie Gillis series, Rosie the Riveter, The
Problem We All Live With, Saying Grace, and the Four Freedoms series.

For your next oral presentation, we want you to look into his art, choose one of his works that especially appeals to you, and comment on it.

(individual work, 5 minutes per student)

• What part of American culture does the painting reflect?
• Why do you especially like that painting?
• What emotions can you see in the painting characters?

The presentations are due for 14th December, 2016

We hope that you’ll enjoy the activity.  For sure it will let you discover an exceptional artist!

During the 10th, 11th and 12th of May,  some students of 4th ESO have attended a Model of United Nations workshop carried out by four students of Alfrink College who have visited us for that purpose.

The workshop, all in English, has consisted of two parts; in the first part  the students have been thoroughly briefed on the functioning of United Nations, and in the second one, they have practiced debate procedures and have got familiar with amendments and resolutions.

All the participants have shown a lot of enthusiasm, and we congratulate them on their excellent work.

You know prepositions is a tricky business. It’s important to work on them to get to use them confidently, with no hesitation and with no mistakes.

Here I leave you the handout worked in class so that you can do a proper revision.

Enjoy your Easter holidays. 🙂
