The sixty-fifth session of Harvard Model United Nations was held from Thursday, January 25, to Sunday, January 28, 2018 in Boston’s famous Back Bay neighborhood. Come January, more than 3,300 high school delegates and their faculty advisors, from 50 different countries,  gathered to address some of the world’s most pressing challenges. Together with a staff of over 200 Harvard University undergraduates, delegates experienced the challenges and thrills of international diplomacy by assuming the roles of UN representatives and other international decision-makers.

From the high-level policy discussions in the Disarmament and International Security Committee to the fast-paced crisis breaks in the Constituent Assembly of Myanmar, delegates spent four days immersed in an exciting and realistic simulation of the United Nations.

We are very proud to tell you that among these 3,300 delegates there were two Colegio Arturo Soria students, Lucía Priego and Lorenzo Manteca, who had been selected to be part of the Spanish delegation.

LEMUN 2017. A new step in our MUN career

The participation in the Model of United Nations organised by Stedelijk Gymnasium, Leiden, one of the oldest gymnasiums in the Netherlands🌷, has allowed 12 more Arturo Soria’s students to experience the diplomatic activity of the UN. Moreover, the fact of having been hosted by Alfrink’s students has meant a big plus in the activity.  The connection between the two groups has been perfect, and our students have come back to Madrid with a happy face😃, many more friends and much better  debating and public- speaking skills. No doubt the effort has been very worthwhile🤗🤗🤗.

The pictures below will help you get an idea of what it was like.

1st Term Oral Presentations. Wonders of the World

The Seven Wonders of the Ancient World were a collection of remarkable constructions listed by various Greek authors, including Antipater of Sidon and Philo of Byzantium. The classic list featured seven wonders located in the Eastern Mediterranean:

Statue of Zeus at Olympia

The Great Pyramid at Giza

Colossus of Rhodes

Maussoleum at Halicasnassus

Lighthouse at Alexandria

Hanging Gardens at Babylon

Temple of Artemis at Ephesus

All of them have modern alternatives such as the world’s tallest pyramid-shaped structure, the colossal Ryugyong Hotel in Pyongyang, North Korea – dubbed the «Hotel of Doom» , or the Dubai Miracle Garden.

The world is full of magnificent examples of man’s accomplishments and modern wonders.  Choose one that leaves you in complete awe.

Why do you especially marvel at it? Where is it? Who promoted or designed it?

(individual work, 5 minutes per student)

The presentations are due for 6th November, 2017

Hope you enjoy the task,  and remember that good work always pays off.

Muna 2017

21 students from Arturo Soria Shool  have participated in the Model of United Nations organised by Alfrink College for the seventh time in a row.

They arrived full of enthusiasm, and have returned loaded with confidence and determination, fully aware of the power of their voice. No doubt will this experience contribute to making them individuals that are not afraid of speaking up, that will be the voice of those who do not have a voice.

We are very proud of them for they have got on very well in an academic English, in a multicultural environment, being excellent ambassadors of our school.

Norman Percevel Rockwell (February 3, 1894 – November 8, 1978) was a 20th-century American painter and illustrator.   His works
enjoy a broad popular appeal in the United States for their reflection of American culture. Rockwell is most famous for the cover illustrations of everyday life he created for The Saturday Evening Post
magazine over nearly five decades. Among the best-known of Rockwell’s works are the Willie Gillis series, Rosie the Riveter, The
Problem We All Live With, Saying Grace, and the Four Freedoms series.

For your next oral presentation, we want you to look into his art, choose one of his works that especially appeals to you, and comment on it.

(individual work, 5 minutes per student)

• What part of American culture does the painting reflect?
• Why do you especially like that painting?
• What emotions can you see in the painting characters?

The presentations are due for 14th December, 2016

We hope that you’ll enjoy the activity.  For sure it will let you discover an exceptional artist!
